What does Hakubaku mean?
“Hakubaku” means “White Barley” in Japanese. It describes Hakubaku’s desire that our customers will enjoy nutrient-rich “Barley” in the same way as white rice, which is primary food in Japan.
Since the foundation, we have been deeply involved with 5 Grains; Barley, Rice, Millet, Wheat and Soba(Buckwheat). Our corporate logo expresses that 5 Grains, Barley, Rice, Millet, Wheat and Soba(Buckwheat) will spread worldwide thereafter.
“Kokumotsu” means “Grain” in Japanese. In view of our corporate history and our determination to keep providing the ideal diet, we define ourselves as “The Kokumotsu Company”.

There are various grains or kokumotsu such as rice, barley, millet, buckwheat, and beans.
Kokumotsu are foods consumed traditionally almost daily and they support a well-balanced dietary style that is a major source of good health.
In Japan, kokumotsu are consumed as staple foods which, combined with side dishes, including cooked seasonal vegetables and fish, are at the center of everyday food consumption.
This is still considered to be the ideal dietary style.
We would like to spread this healthy ideal food consumption culture, which is centered around eating healthy kokumotsu as staple foods, to prepare around the world.

History of Hakubaku
The word Hakubaku means white barley like rice. In 1941 at the time of its foundation, barley was a necessary part of staple diet for the Japanese dining tables as an alternative for rice.
Barley has four times the calcium, twice the corn and ten times the dietary fiber compared to rice.
The beginning of the history of Hakubaku is to aim for the popularization of highly nutritious food while making it taste good and easy to eat.
Since then, we not only have continued to develop new products with healthy kokumotsu, but build plants that maximize leading edge technology one after the other.
At present, Hakubaku takes pride in its single plants for barley and dried noodles with top scale equipment in Japan. Based on a through quality control, collection of raw material supply, processing, packaging and shipment are conducted in the plant.
